LEADERSHIP INITIATIVES NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHES
Leadership Initiatives (LI) is launching a completely new website on November 1, 2009. Current details on each of LI's major programs can be found at www.LIchange.org, including the latest news, photos, and videos from our primary regional development program in Bauchi, Nigeria. The site is designed to enhance communication between the beneficiaries of our community-based initiatives in Nigeria and the young leaders of our sister school programs in the United States.
FISH FARMING PROGRAM CONTINUES TO GROW
On Tuesday, September 29th, our partners at BSADP visited the Birshi fish farming cooperative for an update on progress towards the second harvest. Our farmers have begun separating the fish by size so that their feedings can be more finely tuned. They have also developed new techniques for changing the water in the holding tanks that have significantly reduced the number of resulting deaths. The fish in this second harvest are growing even more rapidly than the first group and survival rates are rising as the farmers become expert in their care.
SISTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS CONTINUE TO EXPAND
Now in its second year, Leadership Initiatives' sister school program continues to provide young leaders in American high schools with opportunities to build meaningful connections in their own communities while supporting the efforts of our leadership trainees abroad. Our two original schools in Pennsylvania and Delaware have been joined by seven new schools in New York, Maryland, Texas, and Colorado. Each of these programs is now fully operational with student leaders across the United States working in direct support of specific sections of our development initiatives in Bauchi, Nigeria.
